A visit to Fort Roberdeau can forge memories to last a lifetime. We encourage you to plan a trip to this Frontier Revolutionary War Fort.
Fort Roberdeau Historic Site is located about 8 miles northeast of Altoona, PA in rural Sinking Valley (Blair County). It is east of I-99, northeast of Altoona and southeast of Tyrone.
If you are using GPS, the address is 383 Fort Roberdeau Road, Altoona, PA 16601. NOTE: Make sure that you enter Fort Roberdeau ROAD and not Fort Roberdeau AVENUE. The avenue is located in a residential neighborhood in the city of Altoona near Mansion Park. The Fort, located on Fort Roberdeau ROAD, is located in Tyrone Township.

From Altoona, PA
From 17th Street in Altoona, go north on Valley View Blvd for 1.6 miles. Turn right onto Kettle Road (opposite Burger King and at Best Event Rentals). Follow Kettle Road for 8.4 miles. At the big, brown “Fort Roberdeau” sign, turn left onto Fort Roberdeau Road and follow it for four-tenths of a mile; at the fork, bear right for three-tenths of a mile. You’ll see the reconstructed fort on the right; parking is on your left, in the field.
From Interstate 99, Exit 41 (Bellwood)
From I-99, Exit 41, go east on Skelp Road for 2.4 miles over “Skelp Mountain” (aka Brush Mountain). At the stop sign in Skelp, bear right, then take the next right onto Country Club Road. Follow this road for about 3 miles. At stop sign, turn right onto Kettle Road and drive for six-tenths of a mile. At the big, brown “Fort Roberdeau” sign, turn right onto Fort Roberdeau Road and follow it for four-tenths of a mile; at the fork, bear right for three-tenths of a mile. You’ll see the reconstructed fort on the right; parking is on your left, in the field.
From Huntingdon, PA and US Route 22
Follow US Route 22 west of Huntingdon to the village of Water Street at the intersection of US 22 and PA 453. At the traffic light, turn right onto PA 453 and follow it for about 3.2 miles. Turn left (south) onto Pemberton Road (watch for signs for Windy Hill Furniture), and follow it for 1.9 miles. Pass the brick and stone Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, then turn left on Kettle Road and follow it for 4 miles. At the big, brown “Fort Roberdeau” sign, turn right onto Fort Roberdeau Road and follow it for four-tenths of a mile; at the fork, bear right for three-tenths of a mile. You’ll see the reconstructed fort on the right; parking is on your left, in the field.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for kids under age 12. Groups with reservations enjoy a rate of $3 per person.
Dress for the outdoors. Comfortable but sturdy walking shoes will let you enjoy the walk around the grounds of Fort Roberdeau. A light weight jacket or sweatshirt may be needed for days earlier or later in the season.
Fort Roberdeau has a covered picnic pavilion and modern restroom facilities. Cold drinks, crackers, and candy bars are available in the Acorn Shop. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds; picnic tables are available on a first-come first-served basis.
RV and bus parking are available. We do not have RV hookups but you are welcome to park on the grounds while visiting the Fort. Sorry, no overnight parking. The grounds close at sunset; buildings and exhibit areas close at 5 PM.
