Lead prospecting and mining continued in Sinking Valley after the American Revolution.

During the Civil War, when once again the need for lead for ammunition was acute, prospectors investigated the deposits of Sinking Valley. They acquired the mineral rights to much of the land, but didn't do much about it. If you own property near the Fort, you may not own the mineral rights.
